Today in Rock History – May 26

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s May 26th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting off with a releases and we’re starting with a big one: Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band! Considered to not only be the best Beatles album, but the greatest record ever. I know we don’t really talk about The Beatles that much, but I just had to mention this one.

Other releases today include Absolutely Free from The Mothers of Invention and Who Made Who by AC/DC.

It’s a great day for birthdays, too as we start with Lenny Kravitz!

The hits keep coming as it’s also Stevie Nicks birthday today!

Other birthdays include Alan White of Oasis and Kristen Pfaff of Hole

We lost Alan White (different Alan White) of YES in 2022.

In 2017, Chris Cornell was laid to rest at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. He was buried next to Johnny Ramone. Those in attendance included Dave Navarro, Tom Morello, Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, and his Soundgarden bandmates Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron.

In 1977, KISS, promoting their upcoming Marvel comic book, provide the publisher a vial of their own blood mixed with red ink.

In 2002, The Osbournes the reality show following Black Sabbath’s frontman and his family had its first episode aired on MTV in the UK.

In 2004, just days after entering the Democratic Republic of Congo to film their documentary of the war-torn country, Sum 41 were evacuated from their hotel in Bukavu when fighting erupts. After being saved by United Nations peacekeeper Chuck Pelletier, the band would name their third album Chuck, in honor of Pelletier.

And finally in 1996, a fire erupts at Eric Clapton’s home, causing over three million in damages. When firefighters arrive, they see Clapton running in and out of his home to try and save his guitar collection.
