Today in Rock History – May 14

Are you ready to learn some stuff? It’s May 14th and here’s what happened Today in Rock History!

Starting off big for releases today as we got the album that introduced the rest of the world to what Australia was keeping for themselves, AC/DC’s High Voltage.

We also got Combat Rock from The Clash, Maladroit from Weezer, Rush’s maligned Vapor Trails and Primus’ major label debut Sailing the Seas of Cheese. Break out the bass!

We even got TWO albums from The Black Keys: their debut effort The Big Come Up and Delta Kream. And speaking of the Keys its Dan Auerbach’s birthday today!

I guess that means we should move onto birthdays, huh? Well we’ve got a hell of a list today that’s for sure including: Jack Bruce of Cream, C.C. DeVille of Poison and David Bryne of Talking Heads.

We also have Ian Astbury of The Cult, Hunter Burgan of AFI, and Mike Inez of Alice in Chains

In 2013, KISS announced plans to open over 100 more of their Rock & Brews restaurants in North America over the following year. It must’ve not worked out as there are currently just 17.

In 1988, Led Zeppelin reunited for the Atlantic Records 40th anniversary party. The band, featuring original drummer Jason Bonham’s son Jason behind the kit, were disorganized and tense for their set after arguments between members Jimmy Page and Robert Plant took place before the show. Page called their appearance “one big disappointment” and Plant agreed, saying that “the gig was foul.” At least they agreed on one thing. Here’s just a taste

And finally in 1987, Motley Crue hosts a listening party for their new album Girls, Girls, Girls at The Body Shop, a strip club in Hollywood that is also mentioned in the title track.
