A man is suing the organizers of Powerball for mistakenly making him think he was a millionaire.
In January 2023, John Cheeks thought he’d won $340 million after his lottery ticket matched up with numbers posted to the Powerball website.
But administrators say the numbers weren’t the real winners, but a test that had been “mistakenly posted”.
Now, Cheeks is suing organizers for – you guessed it – $340 million, claiming gross negligence, breach of contract, and emotional distress.
The defendants say it was clear the website numbers weren’t real – in fact, they were posted before the drawing was even held.
Does Cheeks have a case here? What would you do with $340 million? Thanks, Killabrew
