Just Trying To Keep It Real For A Minute

I blog when I have a lot to say or probably too much to say for some people’s taste. “Shut up and play music,” is what some say. “I hate Liberal rhetoric,” comes from others. I am not being political. I do my best to not be. It isn’t my place to tell you what to believe on that front. I think I am just frustrated with the world we live in. There is a line and most of us stand on one side or the other. It has certainly been a year. One we all would probably like to leave in the rear view.

Let’s start with the pandemic. Some believe it is a hoax, some think it is political in nature, and others are taking it very seriously. You stand where you stand. My parents live in Arizona. It has become a hot zone and they worry. They are of the age that, according to sources, they should. I don’t like the way things are going. I hate what it has done. It has cost us sports, concerts, and some people their way of life. Our station/company isn’t immune. It has been hit hard by this virus. It has cost people jobs and they didn’t do anything wrong. It isn’t fair. People don’t know what to believe on the news and I get it. You can find an option for whatever you want your news to say. I am not a fan of Fox, CNN, or MSNBC. That being said, I am even less of a fan of the people relying on the uneducated speaking from their social media platforms for news. I honestly hope the virus goes away in November. I like concerts and sports. I like making money and a strong economy. In fact, I like all of those things more than I dislike wearing a mask from time to time. That’s me. You do you.

Black Lives Matter. They do. A lot of cities are painting murals and maybe we need the reminder. Maybe we don’t. That is for you to decide personally. I think what happened to George Floyd was disgusting. Police need to do better. George Floyd might not have been the best person in the world, but no cop should take on the role of executioner in that situation. Some people call him a martyr. I look at him as a horrible reminder of how we need to do better. I understand the message, but the looting was disgusting. I think the protests came at the best and worst time. The nation’s attention was grabbed, but 20k gathered in the streets didn’t do us any favors where the virus is concerned. Maybe I am wrong. It has been known to happen and I can admit it.

Police are not the enemy. They are valued and needed. The officers that were killed in Texas deserved better. I can only imagine what it is like to be a cop right now. Afraid to do your job because of the outside influence is so great. I never thought I would live through the country being this divided. I hope it gets better sooner than later. I have a hard time with this. I am not the smartest of people, but I am thankful that I learned how to look at character over color.

On the BLM note, things sure are changing. Rice, syrup, and more looking at new logos. I always looked at Ms. Butterworth as the nice woman who made the syrup. It wasn’t until I was talking about it with one of my black co workers that I saw it any differently. He said that he looked at her as the house servant. Who am I to say either way is a wrong point of view? I am not a confederate flag guy, but to some it is an important part of history. I think that we have to remember the past, learn from it, and move forward by making better decisions. Getting rid of things and trying to erase them is not a good plan. You need to make mistakes to grow. That goes for countries as well as people.

I will save my thoughts on the walking contradiction that is Collin Kaepernick for another day and time.

I guess I am as confused as the next person. I am not sure what the right thing to say is anymore. If I, “shut up and play music!” I am looked at like I am insensitive to what is happening in the world. If I mention something that happens, I am violating the escape that people look for radio to be. It is confusing. I am also at a loss as to why people cannot have an opinion? It seems like people are always angry at each other for having a difference of opinion. History always decides who is right or wrong. Aren’t we all entitled to think and believe what we want? I have friends who democrat, republican, Pro- Trump, Anti- Trump, Dog haters, dog lovers, Catholic, Baptist, Gun lovers, and pacifists. I don’t always agree with them, but it has never made me not like them. They believe what they believe. They might not like a comic book movie loving, video gaming, sports nut, music geek, pop culture junkie, and a person who always worries about gaining weight and getting old. I am who I am though. An aqquired taste for sure. Always have been.

I talk on the radio because I wouldn’t know what else to do. I am trying to be the best me that I can be. I have A LOT of work to do. I don’t tell you how to be you. That’s your job.
