Ever since Lime and Bird scooters were released downtown in 2018, you’ve seen them ridden on streets and sidewalks. So where are we allowed to ride them exactly?
The rule has been that you gotta ride your scooter on the street like other motorized vehicles, but that may change soon… A new law goes into effect today that categorizes them as electric foot-scooters, not motorized vehicles, according to WTHR. For now, it’s actually okay to ride the scooters on the sidewalks alongside pedestrians. Come July 15, the City-County Council will vote on updating the ordinance to enforce riding them on the street with bikes and cars. It’s expected to pass.
