Common’s Indy Appearance Was Nothing Short of “Greatness”

I attended the U.S. Customs & Border Protection and Steward Speaker Series Black History Month Program yesterday, and left feeling totally inspired. Grammy-award winning rapper/actor, Common, was the keynote speaker, and he packed Olivet Missionary Baptist Church out! The theme of his speech was “Greatness.” He touched on how he stepped into his purpose, Kanye West’s influence on his career, and he even did an Indy-themed freestyle – mentioning Paul George, 38th Street, and Congressman Andre Carson. It was so cool!

But I think the highlight of the event was watching him perform his Oscar-winning song, “Glory,” with the Tri-Cities Choir, which is comprised of students from Broad Ripple High School, Pike High School, and Cathedral High School. They had no idea they would be performing with him, and they rocked it! That’s an epic way to bring Black History Month to a close!
