Rihanna’s “Anti”: RIHinventing R&B

Rihanna is constantly rihinventing (hehehe, get it?) herself and genre rules. Her new surprise, Tidal-exclusive album, “Anti,” is no different. I’m almost positive that this genre-bending LP is her best yet. I like to call the entire theme of this album “R&B in the future,” because it’s not sugary EDM/pop. It’s just on the verge of crooning, Babyface-in-your-aunt’s basement-R&B. Here are my 5 favorites on the album:

  • James Joint – The girl can hang with Snoop Dogg with her lungs still in tact. ‘Nough said.
  • Kiss It Better – Sex isn’t uncharted territory for the Bad Gal, but sex that sounds like this is. “Red Light Special” would be jealous.
  • Desperado – If Beyonce and Alanis Morisette had a baby, “Desperado” would totally be it.
  • Needed Me – I imagine her singing this in the bathtub like in the “Stay” video…I don’t know why, I just do! Ha!
  • Love on the Brain – “I’m Sprung” the Rih Rih way.

So, question: because it’s free, will it or will it not be on the Billboard charts? (*scratches head*)
