Greenfield Policeman No Longer Allowed To Have O1NK License Plate

After three years of use, the Indiana Supreme Court ruled a Greenfield officer may no longer use his O1NK license plate. Reuters says the court ruled that corporal Rodney Vawter was using a state issued license plate, and that license plates remain “government speech” and not “free speech”. The strange ordeal began when someone requested an OINK license plate and Vawter’s popped up and was removed.

What’s done is done, but I think this was a silly thing for the court’s to ban. If Vawter was peddling around town in a cop car labeled O1NK I can see how that can be antagonizing to some, or maybe even anger a few fellow officers. If it’s his personal car however, I don’t see what the problem is. Oh well…
