Facebook’s Dislike Button Likely Isn’t What You Think…

Facebook haters and the salty alike rejoiced when it was announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg that Facebook would be adding a much requested “dislike” button to the site. FINALLY, we have an opportunity to scorn our prejudice friends and scorn those never-ending baby photos your college roommate you haven’t seen in years keeps posting…right? Those who think those things are a possibility are likely in for a rude awakening Time reports.

It’s very likely that the “dislike” button will not necessarily be able to be used on users, but rather content. For example, when my grandma posted an article stating that Will Smith has been donating money to a black militia bent on killing white people I can kindly dislike the content as it’s misinformed and flat out not true.

This is where a dislike button will improve your Facebook greatly. A lot of rumors and trash gets spread through the internet, and it’s up to us to get rid of it. This dislike button will at least keep those crazy conspiracy theories and click bait articles far away from your feed and better connect all the whack jobs to fight amongst themselves.

Facebook has already given us tools to avoid users who we don’t likes content from appearing on our news feed. We can block, unfriend, or just merely hide their posts if they are family or a boss, so it doesn’t make sense to actively give us a button to rustle feathers and unnecessarily cause drama.

Most likely, users will be given an option to opt as to whether they would like to have a dislike button added to their statuses. In cases where someone experiences a tragedy and shares with friends on Facebook, dislikes would be more appropriate than liking to show your condolences.

Mind you this is all speculation…Facebook very well might go wild west on us and let the chips fall where they may, but after reading the article…I’m more inclined to think this is how things will play out.
