Where Are They Now: Miss Cleo

“DA CARDS DON’T LIE”! It sounds just as weird for me to say it as it did the “mind and spirit” psychic known as Miss Cleo. Youree Harris was born in Los Angeles, California which is nowhere close to the Jamaican accent she perpetuated on air. Our story begins in the late 90’s where Harris took a job with the Psychic Readers Network. A simple informercial in which Harris acted in the role of a Jamaican psychic by the name of Miss Cleo skyrocketed her to fame. People far and wide were getting the advice of the network, hoping to speak to Miss Cleo, even those who didn’t want it.

We all know how it turned out. Psychic Readers Network was hit with several fraudulent and deceptive advertising charges. Publicly shamed and cast out amongst the psychic community, Miss Cleo faded away.

That wasn’t the end of Harris story, however. She made a brief appearance as a voice in the popular video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City as Auntie Poulet.

Cleo also had a short stint selling cars in Florida, and advertising the relaunch of French Toast Crunch, but both commercials have been pulled ironically due to lawsuits threatened by the Psychic Network she used to work for! Recently she spoke about her experience in the 2014 documentary Hotline. Bottom line, she’s still out there wheeling and dealing…and if you’re thinking of getting into business with her…looks like it’s not the best idea.
